This 20-hour training introduces participants to specific tools to facilitate trauma-sensitive movement. We will explore hatha yoga and breath practices, which can be vital to the healing process of complex trauma. The training emphasizes core components of the theory and practice of trauma sensitive yoga, and how they relate to other anti-oppressive and trauma sensitive treatment methods.

This program includes:

  • The latest trauma theories and neurophysiology
  • Theoretical underpinnings and methodology of TCTSY
  • An in-depth look at studies involving TCTSY
  • Opportunities to practice the methods.

Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) has become a leading evidence-based adjunct treatment for Complex Trauma (sometimes called chronic, treatment-resistant Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). TCTSY is the only yoga-based practice accepted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) and listed with the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP). This unique intervention is based on the robust research that has emerged from The Trauma Center in Boston, MA.

This training is designed for social workers, activists, mental health clinicians, yoga teachers, educators, other health care professionals and anyone looking to deepen their understanding of complex, intersectional trauma. There are no prerequisites to taking this workshop. All are welcome.

Complex trauma dramatically impacts the nervous system. This course is designed to support professionals in broadening their repertoire with trauma sensitive movement and incorporate aspects of the Evidence Based Practice (EBP) of Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) to specifically address the connection between trauma and the nervous system.

This weekend training qualifies as the prerequisite for application to the Center for Trauma and Embodiment’s TCTSY 300-Hour Annual Certification program and is eligible for CEs (18 contact, 2 non-contact) with Yoga Alliance (YA), International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), and various state licensing boards (as requested). Please let us know if you need Continuing Education Credit hours.

The de-compressive qualities of the practice led her to a fluidity and depth of practice she had not experienced before. Her teaching style is playful and athletic, encouraging and creative.
