If you had just 10-15 minutes a day to increase your vitality and sense greater calm, this ancient form of qigong would be the perfect choice. The simplicity, brevity and effectiveness of Baduanjin qigong, also known as Eight Silken Movements or Eight-Pieces of Brocade qigong, make this one of the most popular forms of qigong in the world.

This holistic practice coordinates breath, movement and intention (mind). Baduanjin qigong is both simple and subtle in its approach. The external benefits include joint mobility, muscle toning and flexibility. The internal benefits include increased circulation in the organs and along the meridians.

Modern studies of this 1,000 year-old form of Chinese therapeutics suggest that Baduanjin qigong helps to prevent bone loss and alleviate clinical depression. No prior experience necessary.

Bruno Ballestrero is the founder and director of San Bao Center, a branch of Kai Men Kung Fu Association.

He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and began his training with Professor Sergio Deliens, disciple of the Master Zhang Zhi Guo, in 1999. In 2003 he became a disciple of the director of the Kai Men Kung Fu Association, Professor Horacio Di Renzo, who is in turn a disciple of the Grandmaster Chan Kowk Wai. He started teaching Kung Fu and Tai Chi in Kai Men Kung Fu Association in 2004 and formed his own institute, Centro San Bao, in 2008. He has also taught in the National University of Fine Arts of Argentina (IUNA) and in Aequalis Elementary School in Buenos Aires.

He continues to train with Professor Horacio Di Renzo in the styles of Northern Shaolin and Tai Chi Chuan, and has begun to develop other styles such as Praying Mantis, Choy Li Fut, Lohan, etc. He has taken seminars with the Masters Zhang Zhi Guo, Yang Jwing Ming, Kwong Wing Lam and the Grandmaster Chan Kowk Wai. In addition to studying acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine from Chao Piao-Sheng, disciple of Wang Shu Jin, Bruno has also studied the Kettlebells physical conditioning technique and the physical therapy technique known as “Global Postural Reeducation.” In 2004, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 he traveled to Sao Paulo, Brazil, to train directly with the Grand Master Chan Kowk Wai. In 2012, Horacio Di Renzo presented him with the diploma of “trained professor” at the Academia Sino-Brasileira of Kung Fu in Sao Paulo.

Increase your energy organ health, flexibility, mental and hormonal balance by practicing Qigong. Qigong is an ancient Chinese art of promoting health and wellbeing of body and mind. The qigong masters cultivated energy for longevity. You learn to draw in, conserve, recycle and circulate your internal energy through the pathway of your meridians and energy centers. The body’s many energy channels serve as its wiring which guides the life force to nourish the organs and glands. In this workshop, we will learn to circulate Chi.Qi or Chi means vital energy or breath, similar to prana (Sanskrit) and mana (Hawaiian), and Gong means to cultivate. Qi is the power/ life-force behind our movement and mentality and the rest of nature. Qigong is the health basis of every good Asian martial art technique.

The Western lifestyle can drain energy rapidly, and you are not able to replace it by food alone. The Microcosmic Orbit is one of those special exercises that is reported even to heal spinal injuries.
The Microcosmic Orbit Meditation helps you to get in touch with your Chi flow and correct weak spots or blockages. This exercise will help you to use your life force efficiently. We will also do exercises from Iron Shirt Qigong, Primordial Wisdom Qigong as well as ‘Lying Down Qigong’!

Sept 6Functional Happy Ankles, Knees & Hip Joints: Learn how to take care of your knees and hip joints, prevent damage or reduce damage already done. In fact Dr. Feldenkrais created this method because he had a very injured and arthritic knee. He was able to get back to walking and Judo without surgery by creating and practicing these simple movement lessons! Knees of course have to work in tandem with well-functioning hip joints and ankles. These Feldenkrais® lessons will help you improve mobility. They will organize ligaments and muscles around the joints and distribute their workload correctly to have you walking or dancing with more ease.

Sept 13 – Functional, Happy Ankles, Knees and Balanced Head: You can prevent or reduce joint damage and pain in ankles, knees and neck. Precise movement coordination is of vital importance to prevent inflammation and to help your joints heal. Did you know that the wellness of your knees has something to do with how balanced you hold your head? Knees of course have to work in tandem with well functioning hip joints and ankles. These Feldenkrais® lessons will help you improve mobility and movement function. You also learn how to organize the spine and neck muscles so that the weight will be distributed more evenly over your knees!

Sept 20 – Functional Hip joints, Flexible Pelvis and Strong Lower Back: Learn to make better use of the powerhouse of your locomotion: your hip-pelvis-lower back connection. The hip joints are part of the pelvis. The psoas muscle connects the legs to the lower back through the pelvis. Opening the hip flexors in this workshop increases healthy mobility and prevents hip damage. These Feldenkrais® movements enable you to sense the connection of your legs into your pelvis and torso so that all parts work together for powerful, flexible movement!

Sept 27 – Flexible Ribcage for Good Knees, Elegant Walking & Easy Breathing: This workshop helps improve running, walking, hiking, dancing and even tennis and golfing! It is great for hula dancers! It will feel like a vacation for your bigger joints! Your ribs are the ‘bumpers’ for your knees. If the ribcage is stiff, there is little elasticity for your walk and little shock absorption for any unevenness of the ground. Help your thoracic spine to move in harmony with your legs and pelvis and do a counter-rotation for stabilization. Breathe easy!
