The results of practicing the ELDOA Method are a sense of ease in your body, especially in your back, improved posture, and an overall sense of well-being. This practice promotes independence. You will learn how to relieve, heal and strengthen your own spine!
A French Osteopath named Guy Voyer created ELDOA to eradicate back pain. Using the body’s fascial chains and the principle of tensegrity, the postures of ELDOA set up specific lines of traction to open up spaces in our spinal column as well as shoulders, hips and ribs. Marla blends this powerful practice with yogic breathing and gentle stretches.
Many of Marla’s Eldoa students feel relief from pain after other approaches have failed them. They leave class feeling relaxed, empowered and taller. They understand her clear instruction with images that help them to remember the movements. Students sleep better, move more easily, and improve their posture!
What Marla’s students are saying:
“Marla has an incredible understanding of the body as well as the generosity and intelligence to communicate her knowledge in a way that can be shared with others.”
-Lesley Telford
“Marla is a great instructor and an amazing, kind person. I attend both her yoga and Eldoa classes. I particularly like the unique stretches and posture focus Marla has for my computer neck!”
-Jeff Appelbe
“As a chiropractor, with a broken lumbar vertebra, I’m very picky about who I let treat my body or provide me with exercises. When I heard about Marla’s ELDOA in Vancouver, I had to check it out. Apparently, Tiger Woods has used this technique to help him with his spine, so it had to be valuable, right? Right. Marla is very professional, knows her functional anatomy, and is an excellent teacher. Even with my 20 years in practice, she taught this old dog some new tricks! I have already recommended a few clients to her classes, and they are getting a lot of benefits too. Great complement to chiropractic care.”
-Christian Guenette
The full hour dedicated to ELDOA postures and stretching enhances the many possible benefits including:
- Normalize Disc Bulges
- Reduced Degrees of Scoliosis
- Increased Flexibility
- Improved Muscle Performance and Tone
- Normalization of Visceral Function
- Reduced Stress
- Injury Recovery and Prevention
- Reduced Joint Inflammation and Arthrosis
- Delayed Disc Degeneration
- Increased Disc Hydration
- Increased Blood Flow
- Improved Posture
- Relief of Chronic and Acute Back Pain
- Relief of Neck and Shoulder Tension

Roll your spine healthy, strengthen yourself by connecting to your center (hara / tan tien), where the gut instinct lies. The Hawaiians call this place na’au where the wisdom of your body, mind, and spirit unifies.
We will do movements lessons again with small and subtle movements, as on Saturday, and will do more rolling on Sunday.
All of us need to be able to easily roll – minimally to get in and out of bed and our cars. As babies we learned to roll before we could sit or stand. Rolling is a critical skill in connecting our body and limbs again back to the center where it all started. Through gentle, mindful rolling, we will re-activate our powerful coordination abilities. These rolling lessons are executed again slowly, gradually developing step by step, so all ability levels can participate. For some, the movement can be bigger, less meditative and more playful.
Rolling movements bring us back into our proverbial ‘happy place’, and students often start laughing and giggling! Reorganizing the center often frees up the neck, and discomfort in back and neck can disappear.
You won’t believe how much better you will feel by the end of this weekend of workshops! See Saturday workshop. Both days are a perfect combination and are built to complement each other. If time does not permit you to do both, you may take them separately.

In this Feldenkrais®/SmartMoves Weekend Workshop on February 8 & 9, we learn to dwell in the Alpha state where we are most open to new learnings. Our nervous system gets the chance to reset.
In Saturday’s workshop, we will work with the subtle movements of tongue, eyes, jaw and breathing. The subtleness of movement – executed slowly, minimally and with full awareness – is the best way to undo a lot of chronic tension especially in face, neck and back. We use imagination and mind/body connection, enhancing our neuroplasticity.
The last lessons of Saturday’s workshop will be an easy rolling lesson that realigns the entire spine, shoulder girdle and hips and brings you into your center.
The world we live in is not subtle: we are pushing and ‘efforting’, sometimes for years without a break. That lifestyle costs us dearly. We deplete our adrenal glands’ contents and open the door to many illnesses. After a while we do not even know how to rest: we sink exhausted into bed and wake up exhausted. Added to our daily stress, we tend to push our bodies in sport, workout classes, dance or even in yoga, as we do not remember how to be subtle in inhabiting our bodies.
This workshop invites you to cultivate small, peaceful movement that is restorative and replenishing. As you develop greater awareness through movement, you can find new movement possibilities and experience ‘Aha!’ moments about yourself and life.
You won’t believe how much better you will feel by the end of this weekend of workshops! Sunday workshop. Both days are a perfect combination and are built to complement each other. If time does not permit you to do both, you may take them separately.

Dr. Feldenkrais had injured his knee badly in his youth and by the time he turned 40, he was on crutches. Rather than accepting his situation, he set out to understand his body, brain and nervous system. Thanks to the brilliantly orchestrated movement plan that he devised, he was able to rehabilitate himself. This was the start of the Feldenkrais Method. In this workshop we connect the dots to help the leg joints and also the pelvis and sacrum to move optionally together, as Dr. Feldenkrais did. You learn to put your weight through your knees and to align the knees better with your hip joints, ankles and rest of your body so that they can self-heal.
Through the sophisticated movement sequences of the Feldenkrais® Method and Eva’s SmartMoves, you re-find joint health, regain range of motion and undo tension and pain. Instead of being adjusted or treated by others time and time again, you can now learn what it is that causes you discomfort, tension or effort, as well as how to avoid it. In the course of this workshop, you assimilate easy and gentle movements to take your health into your own hands.

Eva (Honolulu/ Cologne) practices the path of embodying the sacred through conscious movement and dance. Originally a professional trained dancer who performed and made her own evening length dance pieces she ultimately felt that teaching will bring more healing and positive change into the world than performing.
After her Feldenkrais training and working intensively with Emily Conrad the founder of Continuum Movement and Susan Harper in the 80ies and 90ties she created Wave-Continuum. This beautiful healing movement practice opens the heart and connects the mover to the wisdom of life embedded in our fluid system of out cells and the universe. Undulating movement meditation, breath and sound bring this ancient awareness to the surface of our consciousness.

This workshop is for anyone who wants to safely stand on their head. Feel the the benefits of being upside down, including a freer neck and greater space between the vertebrae for a more flexible spine, as well as lowered anxiety and improved blood flow to the brain. This workshop can assist yoga students, dancers, and martial artists in their practices. Dr. Feldenkrais taught thousands of people through his method to stand safely on the head, his most famous student being Ben Gurion, the founder of Israel. The process cured him of a crippling back ache. The smartness of the Feldenkrais Method introduces a safe method to learn to stand on your head and improve your neck and back.

Eyes are important for more than seeing and jaw troubles can be dealt with! This workshop helps to improve your vision and gives you the practical knowledge and skills to alleviate suffering from jaw pain or dysfunction, which is often linked to seemingly unrelated challenges, including migraine headaches and eye strain. When we use our eyes properly and release our jaw, our neck improves and even shoulder pain can subside.
The by-products of this form of training include a body at ease, efficient breathing and a quiet clear mind. Movements feel fluid.
Because the movement of our eyes organizes the movements of our body, our vision impacts and interacts with every movement we make throughout our whole body, as well as how we feel and think.
Vision is the primary sense through which we experience the world. Unfortunately, the quality and clarity of our vision can weaken and degrade over time or we have developed bad habits of tension already early on. However, through easy and gentle movements as prescribed in the Feldenkrais Method, we can learn to recognize and eliminate many of the most common habits that interfere with easy, effortless vision and good spinal organization. We can also learn new skills that transform the use of our eyes, helping us to see more clearly.
As our thoughts move busily here and there, our eyes respond and move busily here and there. When our neck and posture is tight and tense, our eyes will be tight and tense. When our breathing is held or frozen, our eyes will be held and fixed. When our jaw is tight our eyes and neck are tight. As above so below: if the jaw is tight the pelvis and iliac sacral joint tends to be tight.
This Intensive workshop is a wonderful opportunity to get informed and learn to release tension by effortless movements that are done lying down and Tai Chi master Yan Yang, from New York City called ‘Lying down Qigong’! With these wonderful exercises people have healed severe vision problems, as in the case of Toronto based Feldenkrais Practitioner David Webber http://www.feldenkraiscentre.com/pdfs/DWebberArticle.pdf
