Welcome, women of all ages, to the Red Tent. Around the world, women and girls have been gathering in circles similar to the Red Tent for thousands of years.
At Still & Moving Center, this gathering takes place once a month close to the new moon. At this Red Tent, we will explore how coming together in sisterhood empowers, strengthens and rejuvenates us to stand in our own light and our own truth. A sisterhood can do what no woman can do alone.

We gather to give and receive support, to share stillness, movement, laughter, tenderness and food. In our fast-paced society the Red Tent provides a place for us to slow down and connect, talk story and nourish things specifically female. In the Red Tent, we celebrate our experience in a female body. We give our spirits space to breathe and expand, and we share stories that only other women can understand. It’s a place of safety, rest, rejuvenation and rejoicing.
The Red Tent is a space open to all of us, where we are free to be exactly who and how we are right now.

The theme this month is Balancing Feminine and Masculine. We explore how we can flow with this balance in ourselves and in the world, what meaning feminine and masculine qualities hold to us, and how to create inner and outer balance by acknowledging and utilizing all aspects of ourselves.

Part ceremony, part moving/healing space, in this month’s Red Tent for women we celebrate the mothers who have gone before us, the mothers currently in our lives, and ourselves as either mothers or potential mothers. We explore the creative, caring nature of motherhood. We ask how to utilize our creative “mothering” force to give birth to ideas and creations, as well as to physical life. Our conceptual framework is The Mother as an inspiring archetype.

The theme this month is Connecting our spirits. We explore connecting in sisterhood on a worldless level, allowing our spirits a moment to expand and find connectivity in a way that feels meaningful, loving and supportive of who we really are.

We practice mindfulness when we create a lei. It is understood that we weave our thoughts and emotions together with the flowers. The lei is powerful in Hawaiian symbology. Each flower of the lei is like a member of the ‘ohana (family), all bound together with the string of love. An open-ended lei falls around the neck like a small child’s legs draped over the shoulders of the grandparent they are perched upon. Mindful creation… a suggestive topic. Come, weave stories and flowers with our Kumu Hula, Malia Helela.

Throughout history, women have kept time to the cycles of their bodies and also to the cycles of the moon. In this hour long discussion, we will explore ways of finding inspiration and a sense of calm order via these natural rhythms. Told from a uniquely Hawaiian perspective, Kumu Hula Malia Helela shares her personal practices of using lunar and hormonal cycles for creativity.
