Learn to breathe well, and you’ll lose that pain in your neck… Wait, what?!?

Surprisingly, learning to move the diaphragm and ribcage can unlock neck tension, scoliosis and immobility in the spine! Proper breathing provides huge benefits, including mental health and disease resistance! Oxygen is our primary source of energy, our lifeline, even before water and food: breathe well and everything changes.

In this workshop you get acquainted with your biggest muscle, the diaphragm. Once you learn to ‘drive’ this ‘motor’ in the center of your body, you move everything connected to it with greater ease. The diaphragm and the musculature between the ribs learn to work together. The diaphragm pulls equally, releasing unwanted curvatures in the spine. Your ribcage frees up and softens, and your spine elongates. The breath benefit travels up through your thoracic spine into your neck!  Who knew?

While you may take this workshop by itself, you will find that Sunday’s back-rolling workshop will reinforce the mobility and ease of breathing that you gain on Saturday.

I have taken 2 workshops with Eva and she is a wonderful instructor/therapist. These classes are very informative and have helped me tremendously in my knowledge of body mechanics and movement and making healing connections in my body. – Ruth

I loved Eva’s Feldenkrais class! My shoulder felt stiff and sore for almost a month. With just a few simple and gentle movements it was feeling so much better! My spine was stretched out and my feet were more evenly holding my body weight. I plan to take more classes in near future.  Thank you Eva. You are Excellent!!! – Diane

I like the variety of classes offered, and the Center’s focus on the mind-body-spirit connection. I particularly enjoy Eva Geueke’s Feldenkrais classes. The facilities are beautiful, and everyone is so warm and welcoming to students and guests. – John

The results of practicing the ELDOA Method are a sense of ease in your body, especially in your back, improved posture, and an overall sense of well-being. This practice promotes independence. You will learn how to relieve, heal and strengthen your own spine!

A French Osteopath named Guy Voyer created ELDOA to eradicate back pain. Using the body’s fascial chains and the principle of tensegrity, the postures of ELDOA set up specific lines of traction to open up spaces in our spinal column as well as shoulders, hips and ribs. Marla blends this powerful practice with yogic breathing and gentle stretches.

Many of Marla’s Eldoa students feel relief from pain after other approaches have failed them. They leave class feeling relaxed, empowered and taller. They understand her clear instruction with images that help them to remember the movements. Students sleep better, move more easily, and improve their posture!

What Marla’s students are saying:

“Marla has an incredible understanding of the body as well as the generosity and intelligence to communicate her knowledge in a way that can be shared with others.”

-Lesley Telford

“Marla is a great instructor and an amazing, kind person. I attend both her yoga and Eldoa classes. I particularly like the unique stretches and posture focus Marla has for my computer neck!”

-Jeff Appelbe

“As a chiropractor, with a broken lumbar vertebra, I’m very picky about who I let treat my body or provide me with exercises. When I heard about Marla’s ELDOA in Vancouver, I had to check it out. Apparently, Tiger Woods has used this technique to help him with his spine, so it had to be valuable, right? Right. Marla is very professional, knows her functional anatomy, and is an excellent teacher. Even with my 20 years in practice, she taught this old dog some new tricks! I have already recommended a few clients to her classes, and they are getting a lot of benefits too. Great complement to chiropractic care.”

-Christian Guenette

The full hour dedicated to ELDOA postures and stretching enhances the many possible benefits including:

  • Normalize Disc Bulges
  • Reduced Degrees of Scoliosis
  • Increased Flexibility
  • Improved Muscle Performance and Tone
  • Normalization of Visceral Function
  • Reduced Stress

Heart, Neck, Shoulders & Wrists Connection

This workshop will serve to calm and strengthen the heart and nervous system, addressing neck, shoulder, wrist and hand issues along the way. In the last workshop we opened up the thoracic spine, which we will continue. Now we will increase our understanding of how the nervous system and the heart are linked. In Chinese medicine, the heart and pericardium’s electromagnetic circuit (meridian) flows through the arms and hands.

Physiologically, the heart extends itself through the muscles and connective tissues of the back and torso, into the shoulders, then to the arms, wrists, and hands. Metaphorically the heart expresses itself through the hands – as we see in hula, dance in general, acting, and everyday life. If we can imagine a healthy blood flow from the heart, perhaps we can imagine our emotions also flowing healthily out from the heart to the outer extremities. These are the signs of a strong, resilient heart.

Attendees will have access to a video recording session for a days after the workshop, at a modest price.

Important for a healthy respiratory system. Enhance your lung health as you straighten your spine. Eva will be offering live feedback to students during this interactive workshop.

Through the easy and gentle movements prescribed in the Feldenkrais Method, we learn to recognize and eliminate many of the common habits that interfere with deep breathing and good spinal organization. This workshop will focus on the diaphragm and lungs, neck, 7th cervical vertebrae, and how to lengthen rounded backs or scoliosis from the inside out.

We know that the diaphragm works, day in and day out, to move our lungs. Did you know the diaphragm also has an intimate relationship with the heart and the neck? The 7th cervical vertebrae- with many nerves going down the arms and the spine – is the key vertebrae in this connection. Dr. Feldenkrais once said: “We would not have neck problems if our lungs could glide freely.”

The diaphragm is a large muscle in the center of our body that is badly understood and neglected. When it does not move well, the diaphragm not only hampers oxygen intake but also pulls on our chest and neck.

Through our mindful movement today, we’ll help the 7th cervical vertebrae to communicate with the diaphragm and lungs, freeing up the neck!

You’ll take 2 lessons with a water break in between.  We plan to record the lesson to make it available to workshop attendees for a small fee.
