Learn to make better use of the powerhouse of your locomotion: your hip-pelvis-lower back connection. The hip joints are part of the pelvis. The psoas muscle connects the legs to the lower back through the pelvis. Opening the hip flexors in this workshop increases healthy mobility and prevents hip damage. These Feldenkrais® movements enable you to sense the connection of your legs into your pelvis and torso so that all parts work together for powerful, flexible movement!

In this workshop we use the sophisticated movement sequences of the Feldenkrais Method to regain range of motion and undo back tension and pain. This workshop will ensure your spine to stay healthy and/or help it to heal.

If you have a twist in your spine (scoliosis) this workshop can teach you how to lengthen your spine in the right direction. In any case most neck, thoracic, and lumbar vertebrae will benefit and feel more mobile yet stable. You may be able to avoid headaches with these movements.

In the course of this workshop you learn with easy and small movements to take your health into your own hands. Instead of being adjusted or treated again and again you can now learn what it is that causes you discomfort, tension or effort, then you learn how to avoid it. You learn to replace unconscious movement patterns with healthy once that will make life easier and smoother.

What others say about the Feldenkrais® Method:

It has taught me how to shift a moment of pain into a lifetime of curiosity. – Buffy Owens

It has had an enormous effect on the way I run and on the way I live my life. My knee problem vanished. I’ve increased my mileage considerably without a trace of difficulty. And I’m running faster.”
- Bruce Holmes, Runner’s World

It has allowed me to play pain free golf, without worrying about injury. – Duffy Waldorf, PGA Tour Golfer

Feldenkrais has given me the power to take responsibility for any habits that don’t serve me, and the skills to transcend them.
- David Fein

Movement is life. Life is a process. Improve the quality of the process and you improve the quality of life itself.
- Moshe Feldenkrais

What is the Feldenkrais Method® of Somatic Education?

The Feldenkrais Method is a form of physical somatic education that uses special movement patterns and directed attention to enhance human functioning and improve action. With this Method, you can increase your range of motion, improve your flexibility and coordination, and rediscover your innate capacity for graceful, efficient movement.  By expanding the self-image through movement sequences, the Method enables you to include more of yourself in your movements. Students become aware of their habitual neuromuscular patterns and rigidities and learn to move in new ways. The Feldenkrais® Method uses the neuroplasticity of the brain to enhance functioning.

Who Benefits from the Feldenkrais® Method?

Everyone can benefit from the Method. The Feldenkrais Method helps those experiencing chronic or acute pain of the back, neck, shoulders, hips, legs, or knees, as well as healthy individuals who wish to enhance their movement abilities. The Method has been very helpful in dealing with central nervous system conditions such as multiple sclerosis and stroke. Seniors enjoy using it to retain or regain their ability to move without strain or discomfort. Musicians, actors, and artists can extend their abilities and enhance their creativity. Athletes and Dancers can refine their skills, improve their efficiency and keep their bodies healthy for the long haul.

What happens when you work with a Feldenkrais® Method practitioner?

Feldenkrais practitioners work in two ways: either teaching group lessons, called Awareness Through Movement classes, or giving private sessions, called Functional Integration lessons.

In Awareness Through Movement®  group lessons, the Feldenkrais® teacher verbally leads you through a sequence of movements in basic positions: sitting or lying on the floor, standing or sitting in a chair. These precisely structured movement explorations involve thinking, sensing, moving, feeling, and imagining. By increasing awareness, you will learn to abandon habitual patterns of movement and develop new alternatives, resulting in improved flexibility and coordination. Many lessons are based on developmental movements and ordinary functional activities (reaching, standing, lying to sitting, looking behind yourself, etc.). Some are based on more abstract explorations of joint, muscle, and postural relationships. There are hundreds of ATM lessons, varying in difficulty and complexity, for all levels of movement ability. A lesson generally lasts from 30 to 60 minutes.

Private Feldenkrais lessons, called Functional Integration® lessons, are tailored to each student’s individual learning needs. The practitioner guides your movements through gentle, non-invasive touch and words. The student is fully clothed, either lying on a table, sitting or standing. The practitioner may use various props (pillows, rollers, blankets) to support the student, or to facilitate certain movements. The learning process uses only gentle, non-invasive procedures.
