Professional dance instructor David Heller delivers a crash course in the foundations of breakdancing and popping in this exciting two-hour workshop. The first hour (the breaking section) will be devoted entirely to footwork, including Top Rocks, Knee Drops, CCs, the Six-Step, the Three-Step, and the Four-Step.

The second hour (the popping section) will cover the basics of three major elements/styles of popping: Hitting (the ability to flex isolated muscles) Tutting (creating geometric shapes with the arms, wrists and fingers), and Isolations (Moving specific sections of the body one at a time).

If time permits, David will demonstrate three of the more complex elements/styles of popping: The Robot (Botting), Ticking/Strobing, Waving and Liquid. And finally, David will also demonstrate some of the more difficult moves associated with breakdancing: Freezes and Power-moves.

At age 18, David Heller fell in love with breakdancing. Since then, he has performed in numerous competitions, as well as on stage with Hip Hop Legend KRS1 in 2006. Shortly after moving to Hawaii with his family, David became a stage tech for Cirque Hawaii. Eventually he became a breakdance performer for the show, performing two shows a night, six nights a week. In 2009, David began teaching breakdance classes at Iolani School, something never tried before at this institution. In 2010, he began teaching more breakdance classes at The Movement Center in Kaimuki, where he continues to teach today. In August of 2011 David began his first year of as a graduate student at UH Manoa majoring in Dance (Culture and Performance Studies). The University has provided him with solid foundations in choreography, writing and research within the field. After graduate school David plans to go for a PhD either in dance or theatre.
