Learn two basic rhythms used in the Flamenco music of Southern Spain, with North and West African influences:  flamenco tango in 4 and buleria in 3.  We’ll learn the art of palmas: hand clapping in tones, as well simple rhythmic footwork, hand/foot interactions, and traditional shouts of encouragement. After demonstrating and teaching these techniques, John Martin III, the skilled percussionist for Cerro Negro, will accompany us with live singing in an improv jam session of body music.  Huge fun!

Known for their live spontaneous and passionate Flamenco, Rhumba, Brazilian and Jazz; Cerro Negro returns to Hawaii with an ever-widening circle of influences from around the globe including Balken, Django Jazz, Turkish and Peruvian, all played exquisitely. Cerro Negro makes these complex interwoven rhythms seem so natural, even the odds. While remaining true to the ancient rhythmic traditions of the Gypsies, these performers are playing tomorrow’s music today. cerronegro.net
