We’re delighted to announce Charles Kapahua subbing Tai Chi for Better Balance class at Still & Moving Center.

In tai chi, we learn to appreciate the importance of alignment and an alert relaxation rather than tense muscularity in our movement. Relaxation, together with proper joint rotation during movement allows energy to flow through freely throughout.

Tai Chi for Better Balance is an evidence-based, community-translated Falls Prevention program that is endorsed by the Centers for Disease Control. It has been found to reduce the risk of falls in older adults by 55%. A slow-moving, gentle exercise program, it is well suited for anyone with balance issues, recovering from surgery, long illness, and those that have been sedentary for long periods. We emphasize strength building, coordination, and balance. This program has been developed and tested to include individuals with the following conditions: Parkinson’s, Fibromyalgia, arthritis.

The class may optionally be taken in a sitting position – subject to prior consultation with the instructor.

Charles Kapahua

A warm, engaging gentleman from Nanakuli, Charles has been studying Yang style long form Tai Chi with Paul Imada for many years. As an instructor himself, Charles is certified to teach Tai Chi for Arthritis for Fall Prevention Program, from the Dr. Paul Lam Tai Chi for Health Institute.

Both the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and the National Council on Aging (NCOA) recommend this tai chi program. Studies done in 2001 show that participants in the Tai Chi for Arthritis program reduced their incidence of recurring falls by almost 70%.
