Celebrating Business – TruBodyBliss Henry’s Tonics

Henry Kisitu’s healthy, tasty tonics originated in his Ugandan grandmother’s kitchen. There she boiled down pineapple and apple cider vinegar to create a restorative drink. She knew a lot of African herbal medicine, was a nurse, and knew principles of Chinese medicine.  When she passed away, Henry decided to continue her legacy here in Hawaii. He’s been in business on island for about 6 months, and we’re pleased to carry his healthy, local drinks!

We appreciate Henry’s business ethics. He creates a personal relationship with each farmer who grows the ingredients. He ensures their quality and growing conditions, doing his best to get organic products from small farms.

The Pineapple Ginger tonic from his grandmother’s recipe, offers immune boosting and anti-nausea qualities. Maringa, called the Tree of Life, is prized in India, China and Africa, and said to cure some 300 diseases; Henry uses the powdered leaves in his tonic. His Turmeric tonic is powerful, yet quite drinkable, whether in its unsweetened or naturally sweetened variety, providing all the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of curcumin.

Raised by an aunty from ages 5 to 17 after his parents passed away, Henry earned a scholarship to a university in Minnesota, studying English, Business and achieving his Master’s degree. He met his wife in 2008 and they now enjoy their 2 kids. While they were still in college, Henry and his wife sent small quantities of money to help his grandmother’s juice business in Uganda. Now, through TruBodyBliss, they are researching and developing new recipes that support people’s whole health, just as his grandmother did in her time.
